Model falls through hole during L.A. Fashion Week

The Superficial:

"A model fell through a hole in the runway during L.A. Fashion Week. A performer created the hole during the opening performance when he did a front flip onto his back and broke the runway (yeah, you read that right)."

How unfortunate it is for the Model! But she laughed it off in an interview, which was probably the only thing she could do.
What if she had ended up with an injury?
I wonder why she didn't know there was a hole on the catwalk.
Was there no one taking it seriously as fashion shows are so fast paced with quick changes the brain just didn't recognise warnings?
It was really lucky no one got hurt.

Why did no one see this? That just seems silly. No one noticed a HOLE in the runway. Fashion is pretty different, I guess.

I think that this video clip exemplifies the importance of communication from someone in a booth/house setup to someone backstage. After the hole was put in the runway it seems as though every model entering the set should have full warning that there was damage to the deck prior to their walk. The girl never even looked down which leads me to believe that she received no warning about the runway hazard and looked completely perplexed when she fell through the hole. Failure of communication, lucky no one got seriously injured.

Watching a model fall through a hole in the deck, or falling over her own feet is almost the same type of 'schadenfraud' that happens when you watch a preview and the turntable screeches to a hault. It's the beauty of live performance.

And about the model being hurt...
I think she won't be nrealy as hurt as the guy who built/designed/installed the crappy deck.

Well one, that's hilarious.
Maddie is correct in that it does show a total break down between what is happening on stage as opposed to off. It would seem that no one was able to make the necessary communications. It would seem that the fashion world uses headsets as a different means of communication as we do. I would wonder if there is any communication front to back.

At first i was wonderering why is this on the blog? How does this have anything to do with theatre. But then i remembered when we did Once Upon A Mattress at my high school an our rotating turntable on top of poorly made platforms actually started to break the platforms and during the middle of the show we had to adapt. Thats whats good about theatre is that there is always something bound to go wrong so people are used to finding ways to fix things fast. The show must go on.

i actually am not surprised something like this could happen. bright lights, loud music, and stillettos can blind a girl.

It definitely IS a schadenfraud! But I can't believe how weak the deck is. I understand the performer landed quite hard, but it looked really fragile. I don't understand why nobody has warned the model before she left for the catwalk. I'm sure there must have been at least two ASMs on each side behind the wall. I guess things run differently with fashion shows.

uhm i can't help but not laugh. theres so many more on youtube. it isn't easy walking in like 3 inch heals on such a slippery platform. ouch.

This really makes me wonder what was going on with the model. I know that their job is a lot harder than it seems, but seriously? a hole! when I first saw this I figured that it was cheeply patched and she fell through some muslin or lauan or something, but no, just a big gaping hole. I also wonder what that runway was made of, I know that dancer hit hard, but man he really smashed the stuff out of that runway.

So heres the question I have, was the hole there before or after the man in the beginning did the flips on the stage. If it was after I can see why it wasn't noticed however, if not its definatly a shame that nothing was notified because someone clearly didn't do their job. thank god no one was hurt and no one sued for something like risk of injury as I am not positive but think it would be a likly case.

Things like this should be planned for, the deck looked pretty poorly made, and then to have someone flip onto it and land on his back? I'm surprised that he was able to just get up and walk off the runway after that. I've been in many situations where things go wrong on or backstage and the SM never finds out about it. I've tried to help relay information when the ASM's or lack thereof aren't doing their jobs, but it never seems to prevent anything from going wrong. I'ts not like everyone working in the show can come to a halt all at once.
