Mercedes museum hosts most powerful artificial tornado

Engadget:

"How better to get visitors to your museum than to create a massive man-made tornado in the middle of the building? Clearly, our cynical suggestion is not the motivation behind the creation of Mercedes-Benz's artificial tornado in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart"

This is just weird. I understand the appeal of having a real tornado inside a building....but really? Is this what it takes to get visitors to a museum that showcases cars?! The two attractions have absolutely no relation and because of that, I see this as a lousy marketing scheme. It's as if there was banner spread across the tornado saying "This is only here to make money!"

This is another example of how engineers are finding creative solutions to allow better aesthetics in buildings. It's also somewhat ridiculous, but cool. Imagine a real tornado in the next production of wizard of oz.

Okay, so don't let a designer see this. Joe, no talking bears, no tornados! But wow! Thats pretty cool. I agree that its a very obvious ploy with more sparkle than anything else, but it worth going to see. I would really be interested in seeing how they create the tornado because it can't be the same way a real tornado is created.
