China ex-leader is first to grace new theater stage

Reuters: "The first soloist to take to the stage of China's futuristic new National Grand Theater was not an opera star but former leader and opera enthusiast Jiang Zemin."

It's always interesting to hear about integration of gov't and the arts. Usually I like to veer away from the two nearing each other, but in this case it seems like they have a nice equilibrium. That the ex-leaders interest can only help the arts instead of hindering it. Granted we are in china, so art is already slightly stifled.
