IATSE Local 212 Certifies Calgary's Theatre Junction Society

On April 27, 2007, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released a decision granting IATSE Local 212 bargaining rights for all employees of the Theatre Junction Society excluding office, clerical, performers, designers and front of house personnel.

Theatre Junction, which operates out of Calgary’s Grand Theatre, petitioned to include a number of additional employees on the voters’ list. The Labour Relations Board ruled against Theatre Junction and Local 212 subsequently won the representation vote. With the release of the decision, the local is now in a position to begin negotiating on behalf of its new members.

The Grand Theatre, which was built in 1912 and re-opened by Theatre Junction in 2006, is one of the few remaining Canadian theatres built before WWI and is the oldest theatre in Western Canada.

The IATSE is an International Union that represents members employed in the stagecraft, motion picture and television production, and trade shows industries throughout the United States, its Territories, and Canada.
