The National Theatre must stop neglecting the classics

If you want to see cutting-edge experimentalism, the National Theatre is currently the place to go. Meanwhile, if you want to explore the English classic tradition, you have to visit the fringe. Of course, the division is not absolute. Later this year, the NT gives us Saint Joan; and the fringe has just hosted an experimental festival called Split. Nonetheless, I sense a crucial role reversal is taking place undetected."
