Making a case for known faces

Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com: "The voice came from the middle of Row F in the orchestra section at Sacramento's Community Center Theater during a recent matinee performance of 'Twelve Angry Men' — rather loudly, in fact:
'Can you look at him and not think of 'Cheers' '?"

Yes, of course. The Costanza Syndrome.. I find that this happens to me a lot lately especially and sometimes it's really annoying because I'm trying NOT to think about Costanza but merely Jason Alexander and it hardly ever works. Granted that once I'm immersed in the plot I don't think about it but as soon as I have any time to rest I always picture how awkward the situation is because it's Costanza..

This is the kind of thing that comes along with stardom and success in one medium or one show and then attempting to find it in another medium... its an age old challenege that every performer who "makes" it will have to overcome at some point in their lives. one thing i think is that celebrities who get upet about references to pas parts are ridiculous...its unnecessary. they played a role for years of their lives, most of them saw great success and its flattering that they are still rmemeberd...the work is hard and if they dont want to deal with remakrs then they need to stop trying to break out of their stereotype and play it up.

I don't think I've ever seen a celebrity performance in which I am unable to separate the actor from his past characters. Maybe I am just more accepting than most audiences, or maybe I just watch so many films that I can never attach an actor to just one. I do hate it when an actor is in a ton of movies but only plays one role. I can see how an audience would be reluctant to accept more than that.

It is extremely difficult to cut a person from their previous stardoms. Everytime I even see grown up child actors I'm like "hey! He was in Stand by Me!" and then my drifts... That or, if I recognize them from a different movie but can't put my finger on it I'll spend the ENTIRE time trying to figure it out until I do... It's rather annoying. Sometimes I just run off and IMDB it so I can have so peice of mind. o_O

On another note, I feel like sometimes these roles that they become synonimous for sometimes can destroy their whole career. Honestly, the whole Harry Potter thing in Equis... I mean I don't even call that kid Daniel... I would just be sitting their watching the show going - "No! Harry! Why?!?!"
