Chocolate Christ art exhibit cancelled

Boing Boing: "Artist Cosimo Cavallaro's 200 pound, milk chocolate sculpture of Christ was to be exhibited next week at Manhattan's Lab Gallery but the Roger Smith Hotel that houses the exhibition space cancelled the show today. After hotel officials bowed to pressure from pissed off Catholics, Gallery director Matt Semler resigned. "

This is sick on both sides, the fact that the exhibit was canceled, and the chocolate jesus are just things that I don't care to see. Semler says that they hotel jumped to conclusions without realizing the whole idea. What would stop the audience from jumping to conclusions?

I think it's a shame that the exhibit was pulled...it's a piece of art, it's meant to invoke some type of strong emotion or have a backstory and a purpose, i don't understand why people get so offended by things like this...it doesnt mean that the entire worl will start thinking of christ made out of choclate...it just means the artist was looking to express himself...shame.

Hahaha chocolate christ! That has got to be one of the funniest ideas I've heard in a while. I mean really... jesus candy? Although, people "eat jesus" every sunday in church... it's just in a more tasty and realistic form...?

Sweet blasphemy.

okay i had to say it, sorry.

So whats the difference between a chocolate jesus and a chocolate cross that are everywhere around easter? Where do we draw the line between what is 'religiously appropriate' and not. It is sad that the hotel had to pull the sculpture because they were fearing for their own safety...

We had a big debate in lunch yesterday about this. I just don't see the difference between wax jesus and chocolate jesus. The Protestants bans both anyways. And it's interesting that it was Catholic that accused them when they make wax jesus, crystal virgin mary. It's because jesus is naked and it's made out of something edible. Totally...
