Guild Rejects Canadian Film Fight

Backstage: "The International Cinematographers Guild, which is Local 600 of the IATSE, has rejected a proposal to help fund a so-called 301(a) petition under the 1974 Trade Act. Members attending a special meeting of the guild on Sunday heard arguments from both sides of the issue, which hinges on a proposed attack on the legal standing of Canadian film-production incentives, guild president Steven Poster said."

This article continues to follow the lack of support for the preforming arts in America addressed in some articles from earlier this year. I really think that the unions and guilds are going to have a very difficult time in the upcoming years. While this article addresses one problem I fear that as international shipping rates will make over-sea production companies cheaper than local ones like Tait. I also think that if foreign moviemakers manage to hire American expertise in the form of some directors and writers they could compete for a market share in the US.
