Fear of offending Islam spurs hot debate in Europe

Reuters.com: "By canning its production of 'Idomeneo,' fearful of security threats because of a scene that might offend Muslims, Berlin's Deutsche Oper provoked front-page headlines across the continent and found itself fending off charges of cowardice."

As much as I agree that the opera should go on despite people's fears of being attacked for it, I understand the fear. Life should go on despite what has happened since and before September 11, but you have to think of the people directly involved. The article mentioned one man being murdered for writing. Imagine if the actors and production and design teams met the same fate. Artistic freedom should exist, but if there is a real threat against your life, you just need to ask yourself if it's really worth it.
