BLOOM IS FADING

New York Post : "'The Producers,' which once looked as if it would run forever, suddenly has lost its footing.
In the last few weeks, the bottom has fallen out of the box office, and the cast has been playing to half-empty houses."

Sounds like the producer of "The Producers" is trying to stay optimistic while his ship is sinking. I'm not sure if I buy it though. I think the oversaturation of a movie can cause theater goers to be bored. Movies are often more flashy and cleaner than a live production, and the audiences may still want that from it, while it is impossible to have cinematic flow on stage. I do believe it will close and I do believe that Mel Brooks' new show will have to find a new venue. It must be the end of "The Producers" era.
