Portrayal of gay characters shows how arts, times change together

St. Paul Pioneer Press: "In the 20-odd years since 'La Cage,' sympathetic gay characters have become commonplace on the stage, in film and on television. A recent article in the parody newspaper the Onion satirically reported that 'widespread violence and riots have broken out across the U.S. since the May 18 airing of the last episode of 'Will & Grace,' the NBC sitcom hailed as the lone common bond between American gays and straights.'"
