CARPENTER

Goodman Theatre seeks a Carpenter to work under the supervision of the Technical Director and Production Manager in constructing scenery for its productions. He/she will be given projects on a per show basis, and will work on all load-in and load-out crews. Also, he/she will perform additional duties as assigned and do routine maintenance.

The candidate must have a minimum of three years professional experience. Must have extensive knowledge in woodworking and MIG Welding. Skill in finish carpentry, metalworking, stage rigging, and automation/motion control is also beneficial. Need to have a broad knowledge in theatrical procedures, scenic construction, problem solving, tools and theatre products. Ability to repeatedly lift, push, or maneuver 50-70 lbs, either alone or with assistance from others, as well as climb ladders and work in high places. Work as a team member, and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to construction, load in, and load out of scenery for the Goodman's Albert and Owen Theatres as required. Assisting other production departments as needed, and maintaining a clean and safe scene shop, loading dock, and backstage work area. All production personnel are expected and required to follow safety practices at all times. This includes, but is not limited to: eye protection, glove usage, respirator/mask usage, ventilation, blade guards, ladder usage, fall protection, proper lifting practices and posted safety procedures.

The job is full-time with a benefits package and operates under the provisions of the Goodman's collective bargaining agreement with I.A.T.S.E. Local 2.
